We are pleased to announce that the first two volumes of the new English Profile Studies series have recently been published.
Volume 1, entitled Criterial Features in L2 English and written by J.A Hawkins and Luna Filipovic, introduces the concept of criteriality, i.e. the properties of learner language which are characteristic and indicative of L2 proficiency at each level of the CEFR. The second volume in the series, Language Functions Revisited, by Antony Green, introduces the theoretical and empirical bases for defining English language learning levels in functional ‘Can Do’ terms. Together these volumes summarise the latest findings from two important research strands within English Profile, namely lexico-grammatical features of English and functional progression across the proficiency range.
